How YouInspect™ handles your information. The short version: your inspection records are saved on your device and, when you're signed in, synced privately to your account so you can reach them on your other devices, and if you choose to share a report, it goes only to the people you invite; we don't sell your data, and the camera and microphone are used only for the inspection work you choose to do.
Effective August 5, 2026 · Patent Pending
The short version
- Your inspection records — addresses, notes, photos, voice notes, and statuses — are stored on your device and, when you're signed in, synced privately to your account.
- Without an account, those records never leave your device. When you sign in, they sync to your account so you can reach them across your devices.
- If you choose to share a report, it is uploaded to your account and made readable only by the people you invite — and you can stop sharing it at any time.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your inspection records for advertising.
- The camera and microphone are used only for photos and voice notes you choose to take.
- One optional feature can send a single photo to a third-party image-analysis service — but only when you ask for it and approve that photo.
The sections below explain this in more detail. YouInspect is buyer education and pre-screening — not a licensed home inspection.
Information you provide
When you use YouInspect, you may create:
- Account details — if you create an account, information such as your name, email, and role.
- Inspection records — the property address or location, item statuses (for example, Inspected, Not Inspected, or Deficient), your typed notes, your voice notes, and the photos you take.
Information collected automatically
Like most apps and websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically log basic technical information — such as device type, browser, app version, and general location derived from your IP address — to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the Service. We use this to keep the Service running reliably. We do not use third-party advertising trackers to profile you.
Camera and microphone
YouInspect uses your device camera so you can photograph what you see, and (optionally) your microphone so you can record a spoken voice note instead of typing. Your device asks for permission the first time you use each of these, and you can decline — typing always works as an alternative. We access the camera and microphone only while you are using those features.
Photos
Photos you take are stored on your device with your inspection records and, when you're signed in, synced privately to your account so your reports appear on your other devices — readable only by you. You choose what to photograph. If you choose to share a report, the photos in it are also made readable by the people you invite to it. Aside from that, photos are used only for the optional photo feature described next.
Optional cover-photo material check: if you ask for it and approve, YouInspect can send one exterior cover photo to a third-party image-analysis service to suggest what the exterior walls are made of (for example, brick or siding). This is off unless you request it, happens only for the one photo you approve, and only ever suggests a property characteristic — never a condition, verdict, or “Pass.” You choose whether to accept the suggestion.
Voice notes
If you record a voice note, your device or browser's built-in speech recognition may be used to turn your speech into editable text. Depending on your device and browser, that provider may process the audio to transcribe it. The recording and the resulting text are stored with your inspection records on your device, and — when you're signed in — synced privately to your account. Voice notes are always optional — you can type instead.
On your device — and in your account
Your inspection records are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. When you are signed in to an account, they also sync privately to your account — stored with our cloud hosting provider under your account and readable only by you — so you can reach them on your other devices; as a guest, they stay only on this device and are not uploaded to us. Clearing your browser's data for the app, or deleting the app, removes the local copy from your device.
Only records tied to your signed-in account sync to the cloud; a guest's records never leave the device. Deleting a report removes it from this device and from your synced account copy.
Sharing a report is separate and always your choice. When you share one, the report — its details, your notes, and its photos — is uploaded to your account and made readable only by the people you invite to that shared report. You can stop sharing it, which removes the shared copy; people you do not invite cannot see it.
How we use information
We use information to:
- provide the Service — save your inspections, generate reports, and power the features you turn on;
- keep the Service secure, reliable, and working as intended;
- respond to you and send service-related messages; and
- comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information.
How information is shared
We share information only in these limited ways:
- Service providers — companies that help us run the Service (such as hosting, and the optional image-analysis service for the cover-photo check), which may process information on our behalf under agreements that limit their use of it.
- When you share — if you share a report, it is uploaded to your account and made readable only by the people you invite to it; you control who is invited and can stop sharing at any time, which removes the shared copy.
- Legal and safety — when we reasonably believe it is required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, or the Service.
- Business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
The current “Find a Pro” referral experience uses sample matches in this preview and does not transmit your personal information to third-party professionals.
Professionals who apply to partner with us
If you are a professional or business and choose to apply to be featured on YouInspect — for example, through our “Partner with YouInspect” form — we collect the business information you submit:
- your business name;
- the trade or service you provide;
- the ZIP-code service zones you’d like to sponsor;
- your email address and phone number; and
- optionally, your website and the area you serve.
This is information about your business, and you provide it voluntarily to apply for a paid featured placement.
Unlike buyers’ inspection records, which stay on the buyer’s device, this application information is sent to us and stored on our behalf by our cloud database provider, Google (Firebase / Cloud Firestore), on servers in the United States. We use it only to review your application, contact you about featured placement, and — if you move forward — set up and manage your sponsorship and keep the records we need for billing, tax, and legal purposes. We do not sell this information.
We share it only with service providers who help us operate the Service — such as our cloud database and hosting providers and, if you proceed to paid placement, our payment processor — under agreements that limit how they may use it. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your application information by emailing privacy@youinspect.app; we will honor your request except where we are required to keep certain records to meet legal or accounting obligations.
Featured placement is a paid sponsorship. How featured listings are labeled to buyers, and the terms of any sponsorship, are covered in our Terms of Use, not this policy.
Data retention
Records stored on your device remain until you delete them or clear the app's data. If and when account features are available, account information is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward as needed to run the Service and meet legal obligations; deleting your account removes the synced records associated with it.
Your choices and rights
You are in control of the records on your device — you can review, edit, and delete them, and clear the app's data at any time. Where account features are available, you can also update your profile, change notification settings, and delete your account from within the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of it (we do not sell it). To make a request, email privacy@youinspect.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information, and keeping records on your device by default limits their exposure. Still, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please help protect your information by securing your device and any account credentials.
Children's privacy
YouInspect is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at privacy@youinspect.app and we will delete it.
Where we operate
YouInspect is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, you understand that any information processed by us is handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, and we will update the date above. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
